Baseball Season!

As April hits, and I feel the spring air, the warmth of the sun, and the soft breeze... wait, who the crap tried to write that on my blog?? IT IS BASEBALL SEASON!!! I'm warped, truly, but baseball season makes me giddy for so many reasons. Where do I even start?

As a kid, I remember the Tigers winning the World Series. It was 1984. I was only 7 years old, and I didn't really understand what it all meant, but I cheered, collected baseball cards, and put a sweet ROAR OF 84 bumper sticker on a chair in my bedroom... or maybe my brother put it there.

I also remember watching my brother play baseball. He played for as long as I can remember. When he got into high school, and I was at the private school, I'd come to his games, always willing to take score if I was needed. Of course, I did this with an ulterior motive--so the other players would come talk to me. I was all about the boys. Wait, I still am. Anyway, baseball is just one of those happy childhood memories for me.

Tons of my memories with my best friend have been baseball games. She and her husband share the baseball love, so we spent the last few summers at baseball games. This year, it will be harder to get tickets, and we might not even be able to go to a Tigers game together. That makes me a bit sad! :( But this video always makes me feel better:

I think it was 2002 when I decided I'd renew my baseball love. I decided I would cheer die hard for the Tigers, my home team. My friends and I started going to games. The Tigers were horrible. This was actually kind of nice because we'd buy $5-8 tickets and then go sit right along the field. I was in attendance for the game with the lowest attendance ever. I was also at a game where the Tigers lost in less than 2 hours. I felt like I needed a partial refund! The game began at 7:05 and was over just before 9:00! It was crazy.

In 2003, the Tigers had to win their final game in order to avoid the tying record for the losingest team of all time. Is that a word? But since then, they've done nothing but improve. In 2006, they went all the way to the World Series. I was fortunate to attend 2 ALDS games vs. the Yankees (when we beat them!), and the only WS game the Tigers won. 2007 was a decent year, but they missed the playoffs in the end.

So here we are, in 2008, and I'm ready for baseball! I'm ready to watch the Tigers, the Nationals, and the Baysox! Bring it on!

I'm going to 2 games in Detroit the first week of April. Then, I'll see the Tigers play the Orioles for 4 games in July. Those may be my only Tiger games this year. I'll get my fill of Baysox, though, I guess.

There are very few things in life that are better than a good baseball game.
